athleteofrecord The international athlete registry
About the registry

An athlete registry, not a media outlet.

Athlete of Record is an institutional register of athletes of record in international combat sports — affiliation, weight, sanctioning standing, held against primary documentation.

What the registry is

Athlete of Record maintains an institutional register of athletes whose competitive participation has been entered into the international sanctioning record. The register tracks the athlete's federation affiliation, the weight class under which the athlete is currently rostered, the sanctioning-body standing at the time of last federation update, and the documentary chain from which each entry has been verified. The unit of record is the athlete; competitive results live in adjacent registries, not in this one.

The register is institutional in posture: an athlete is entered when the primary federation publishes their roster placement, and the entry stands until the federation removes the athlete from the roster or alters the affiliation under a published roster update. The register does not produce ranking analysis, does not adjudicate between sanctioning bodies, and does not publish editorial on the merit of any athlete's competitive trajectory.

Editorial posture

The register's working voice is administrative. An athlete is entered against the verifiable documentary chain, the entry is dated, and the entry stands. Where downstream actors have transmitted the athlete's record in distorted form — for example, attributing an active affiliation to a club from which the athlete has departed, or projecting a junior-circuit result onto a senior-circuit roster — the register publishes a contemporary correction record. The correction record cites the source of the distortion, identifies the specific factual element, and provides the verified register entry.

The register does not editorialize on the athletes inside it. It maintains the institutional record. Where context is necessary — for example, where a national federation has restructured its competitive divisions, or where a sanctioning-body ruleset has been clarified after the fact — the contextual note appears as an adjacent register entry, not as a rewrite of the underlying record.

What the register is not

Not a results service, not a rankings system, not a fight-prediction outlet, not a promotional surface for any athlete, gym, federation or sanctioning body. The register does not run advertising, does not enter into syndication with results aggregators, and does not solicit donations. Operational costs are absorbed by the editorial office.

Athletes are not contacted for entry to the register; entry is by federation-roster verification only. The register does not accept athlete-submitted material as a primary source for entry, on the basis that the institutional standard requires independent federation-side documentation. Athletes who wish to direct attention to the documentary chain that supports a roster entry can do so through the federation publishing channel; the register has no role in that process.

Scope

The register currently maintains entries across the United World Wrestling (UWW) member federations, with particular focus on the Combat Pankration commission and Beach Wrestling commission. Within UWW the register tracks senior, junior (U17, U20) and cadet (U15) divisions across the freestyle and Greco/classical rule sets where the member federation publishes the relevant rosters. Affiliated national federations — USA Wrestling, equivalent member federations in Europe and the Americas — are cross-referenced where their roster publications constitute primary sources.

Outside UWW, the register cross-references professional grappling federations only where the federation's senior-roster publication enters the international sanctioning chain. Promotion-style organizations whose rosters are commercial rather than sanctioning are out of scope. The register does not track exhibition rosters, club rosters internal to a single gym, or developmental program rosters.

Independence and funding

Athlete of Record operates independently of any sanctioning body, federation, gym, athlete-management entity or media-rights holder. The register does not accept editorial input from organizations whose athletes appear in the record.
